NAMASTE
At the end of most yoga classes, we say Namaste. However, what does it mean exactly? IN SHORT, it is a way of “PEACE”. Or, “I recognize the pure good that you are.” IN LONG, it is often defined as: “I honor the place in you where the entire universe resides, I honor the place in you of love, of light, of truth, of peace. I honor the place within you, where if you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, there is only one of us.”      back to top

ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS IS
Moving Into Stillness by Erich Schiffman I've studied with Erich many times. He is one of my main teachers. He offers amazing ideas about how yoga transforms your body and your life. And, what to do when you start to feel this “change” happen. You can buy it at Amazon.com, Barnes and Nobel, East West books in NY.      back to top

VIDEOS YOU MAY WANT TO TRY
I recommend YOGA JOURNALS PRACTICE FOR STRENGTH WITH RODNEY YEE. It’s a good compliment to poses learned in class. It is about a level 2. He covers alignment well and builds a nice vinyasa flow to get the heat going. In addition, there are two separate 30-minute routines that you can practice individually. What I like about a shorter and more intense practice is that is will help make it easier for you to commit to a daily yoga practice. There is no reason why you should feel that you HAVE TO DO an hour or more. 20-30 minutes daily, or at least 3 times a week, will bring profound benefits to your body and life. You can buy the video on Amazon.com or probably at Sam Goody.      back to top

GREAT CD!!!!!!!
I just got Krishna Das’s new CD - called Live on Earth for a Limited Time Only. It is amazing. (It’s the one I’ve been playing in my classes in Hoboken lately.) You can find it at East West Books or on his web site at: www.krishnadas.com      back to top

STUDENT RECOMMENDATIONS
Thank you to Thamara for sending in this recommendation: “I just finished reading Conscious Evolution by Barbara Marx Hubbard, and Healing the Soul of American by Marianne Williamson. Both are fantastic, inspiring accounts of what is good in our culture and what needs to change. And how we as individuals can make a difference. So many people feel that there is nothing they can do as one individual to make a difference and these books both argue strongly that there is much we can do.”      back to top

UP COMING WORKSHOP April 29 & 30
John Friend is a Master Yogi who teaches around the world. His workshops and classes are often sold out and very difficult to get in to. I've studied with John Friend a few times and found his alignment techniques to be incredibly helpful in my asana practice and his attitude and approach to be inspirational. John has a handful of senior teachers who are certified to train people in his style of yoga called Anusara Yoga. (Yoga of grace) Kathleen Hogan is one of those select few. She will be teaching a Workshop at Yoga Zone and here is the information: WHAT: ANUSARA YOGA INTENSIVE WHO: With Kathleen Hogan WHEN: APRIL 29, 1:30-4:30; APRIL 30TH 1:30-4:30 WHERE: YOGA ZONE 138 5th Ave REGISTER: Call 212-647-YOGA or go to Yoga Zone COSTS: Both Classes paid in advance $90.
