NAMASTE YOGIS AND YOGINIS,
Welcome to YOGALICIOUS 15. Like me,
many of you expressed that this month has been one of oscillating
back and forth between emotions of strength and weakness. In seconds,
I can slip from feeling "normal" to revisiting shock,
anger, and sadness. I imagine this will continue for some time.
A flow between experiencing comfort and discomfort, over and over
again. Actually, this has always been the deal. All the great yoga,
meditation, and spiritual leaders teach that we are in an endless
flow between comfortable and uncomfortable conditions. The secret
to peace and happiness is to develop equanimity with this flow.
This is what we practice on our yoga mats and hopefully learn to
bring off the mat and in to our daily lives. With this issue, I
hope to inspire your practice with ideas to work with this flow,
as you continue to heal and release stress. I'd also like to invite
you to practice with me in NYC FREE. Please extend the invitation
along to everyone you know who might benefit from a free yoga class!
(See bottom for coupon.)
With Much Faith and Love,
Jillian

| WHEN
THINGS FALL APART |
| I highly recommend
this book NOW! Pema Chodron offers exceptional insight to working
with the flow between comfort and discomfort. Here's an excerpt: Things
are always in transition, if we could only realize it. Nothing ever
sums itself up in the way that we like to dream about? To stay with
the shakiness-to stay with a broken heart, with a rumbling stomach,
with the feeling of hopelessness and wanting to get revenge - that
is the path of true awakening. Sticking with that uncertainty, getting
the knack of relaxing in the midst of chaos, learning not to panic
-this is the spiritual path. When Things Fall Apart by Pema
Chodron is Published by Shambhala Books http://www.shambhala.com.

| ESSENTIAL
OILS |
| Essential oils are natural
pure plant extracts that possess strong therapeutic benefits. I often
use oils before meditation, in my bath, and by burning them in a diffuser.
My personal mix this month is designed to reduce stress and anxiety,
increase mental clarity, and uplift spirits. I've combined lavender
(6-7 drops), peppermint (3-4 drops), and tangerine (5 drops). Young
Living Essential Oils are known to be the purest oils and aromatherapy
products in the world. For more information on oils and their benefits

| HELLO
~ NAMASTE |
| In the ancient Celtic language,
each letter/sound of their alphabet had a sacred meaning: "H"
was the letter/sound for honor, for giving homage."EL" was
for God" we find the same root sound in Elohim and Allah. "O"
stood for fire and initiation. So "HELLO"' literally meant,
I honor God in Whom youre initiated. In today's
language, that can mean, "I honor the Divinity within you,"
or "I give homage to God burning in your heart." Therefore,
"HELLO" has the same basic meaning as the Sanskrit word
"NAMASTE," which also means, "I honor the Divinity
within you." (source: The Yoga House) back

| IT
WAS A YOGA ADVENTURE |
| 30
yogis joined me for the Yoga Adventure, Oct 5-7. It was certainly
an adventure. The resort is gorgeous. It is right on a lake, surrounded
by mountains, and the leaves were just changing colors. It was perfect...
well, almost. Due to the events of September 11, the campus was over-booked
with folks wanting to get out of the city. There were many other groups
there running around playing sports, and "letting go". Then
the rain came? Since it was the first rain of the season, the Camp
was not prepared to accommodate all the activities indoors. In addition,
our first morning session was in a tent overlooking the lake. Perfect
for a sunny day. Without another room for us, we needed to make it
work. They secured the tent with side panels and cranked up space
heaters. After a few sun salutes, gripes, and laughs, we all got used
to the waterfalls rushing down the tent sides, the occasional drips
on our mat, and the gusts of wind overpowering my voice. This group
of yogis really knew how to take things lightly. We practiced equanimity.
It turned out many even expressed that practicing in the storm made
them feel more connected to nature, more meditative. Phew, close call.
Just as I started joking about making t-shirts 'I survived Yoga at
Club Getaway' - things really got bright. The sun came out and many
of us participated in other activities including golf, hiking, archery,
mountain biking and softball - or walked to town to visit the cute
shops and eat homemade chocolate. The highlight for me was our group
hang at The Moose Lodge. We sat in couches around a big fireplace;
toasted marsh mellows, made yummy smoores, ate dinner, enjoyed a glass
of wine, laughed a lot, and played an exhilarating game of Taboo.
(I highly recommend this game!) At the end of the weekend, many students
declared they were able to go deeper into their asana practice than
they had in a long while. This is the beauty of a retreat; you have
the opportunity to do yoga with out being on the run to get home,
to work, or your next task. When you are less stressed and more relaxed,
you lighten up and your body and mind become more easeful and open.
Combine this with some laughter and you have the perfect equation
for bringing your practice to a new level! back

| KAHIL
GIBRAN (an excerpt from THE PROPHET) |
| "Then
said a teacher, "Speak to us of teaching". And he said:
"No man can reveal to you aught but that which already lies half-asleep
in the dawning of your knowledge. The teacher who walks in the shadow
of the temple, among his followers, gives not of his wisdom but rather
of his faith and his lovingness. If he is indeed wise he does not
bid you enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads you to the
threshold of your own mind. The astronomer may speak to you of his
understanding of space, but he cannot give you his understanding.
The musician may sing to you the rhythm, which is in all space, but
he cannot give you the ear which arrests the rhythm nor the voice
that echoes it. And he who is versed in the science of numbers can
tell of the regions of weight and measure, but he cannot conduct you
thither. For the vision of one man lends not its wings to another
man. And even as each one of you stands alone in God's knowledge,
so must each one of you be alone in his knowledge of God and in his
understanding of the earth."
