WORDS OF WISDOM

“In order to experience the fullest freedom of our hearts, we must say 'no' to that which dishonors us, cloaks our beauty, blocks our happiness, diminishes our health, weakens our self esteem, dis-empowers us, and significantly reduces our psychic savings account.” John Friend

YOGI LOVE YES!

OFF THE MAT
Yoga doesn't have to be practiced on your mat, in your postures. Yoga means 'Union', to yoke - uniting our mind, body, and spirit with each other and the universe - connecting fully with each moment. Sometimes, being in nature can help you reach this union more effortlessly. Simply bring a yogic-approach to any activity you choose; i.e.: mindfully approach your swimming, body surfing, or canoeing. Stay gently aware of your breath as you listen to the sound of the water, fully experience the water temperature and texture, observe the nature around you. Try it on a walk or hike. Notice the various smells such as the soil, trees, and flowers. Appreciate the feel of the breeze or warmth of the sunshine. Be silent and listen to the birds and insects. Sense each step as you connect to the earth. For more structure try the walking meditation below.   back to top

WALKING MEDITATION POEM
Walk and touch peace every moment. Walk and touch happiness every moment. Each step brings a fresh breeze. Each step makes a flower bloom. Kiss the Earth with your feet. Bring the Earth your love and happiness. The Earth will be safe When we feel safe in ourselves. -- Thich Nhat Hanh   back to top

WHAT'S EATING YOU?
As you probably know our vitality and health is dependent on our food. But, do we know what we're really eating these days? After reading an enlightening article about Genetically Engineered (GE) foods in Yoga Journal (7/02), I was inspired to do some investigating. I learned some scary stuff about their recent upsurge and the serious hazards they pose on animals, the environment, and us! Scientists warn that GE foods may set off serious allergies, increase cancer risks, produce antibiotic-resistant pathogens, damage food quality, and produce dangerous toxins. They also report various environmental hazards including increased use of highly toxic pesticides, damage to soil fertility, harm to Monarch butterflies and other beneficial insects. Nevertheless, despite increasing sanctioned warnings, bio-engineers continue creating hundreds of new GE foods and crops! Read this article for a basic overview of Genetic Engineering: type in www.inmotionmagazine.com/geff4.html. To read more info visit www.holisticmed.com  back to top

YES!

"Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness,. the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves, too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way." -- Mountaineer William H. Murray -- reflecting on the organization and willpower necessary to begin a major expedition.  back to top
