Namaste Yogis and Yoginis,

Welcome to YOGALICIOUS #26. New Year's is often a time to create resolutions. To fix, change, or improve ourselves: to become happier. However, in resolution setting we tend to disregard the essential wisdom that the journey is not in 'fixing' ourselves, but rather in 'revealing' our inherently exquisite selves.

This is the highest intention of Yoga. We simply need to become centered, relaxed, and aligned in a way that cultivates the right conditions in our body, mind, and spirit which allows our wisdom, radiance, and intrinsic goodness to shine through. When we are in this kind of alignment, we feel our deep routed connected-ness to all things.

This issue is filled with wonderful quotes, ideas, and articles to inspire this revelation and stimulate your seasonal pilgrimage. May you enjoy your journey into a fresh New Year and into your brilliant self!

With Faith,
Jillian

P.S. Come join me for a mini-retreat to kick off the New Year. January 12, at Be Yoga. "Clarify Intention, Cultivate Awareness, Refine Receptivity, Rejuvenate Energy…And get your feet rubbed! More below.

WORDS OF WISDOM

"Often people attempt to live their lives backwards: they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so that they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then, do what you need to do, in order to have what you want" M. Young

INTENTIONS INSTEAD OF RESOLUTIONS

As the Maitri Upanishad states, "As is ones thought, so one becomes." Your intentions and thoughts create your actions. When you set an intention you become more clear about why you're doing something; what kind of attitude you want to commit to having; and what you hope to cultivate from the experience. In addition, when you are clear about our intention, you can more easily recognize any self-talk that doesn't support you. I set intentions for every yoga practice, every class I teach, for big events, and special projects. For the past few years, my intention with my yoga practice has been to cultivate self-care and acceptance, to become more present and receptive with others, to develop a strong and supple body so I can and myself experience and share more of myself out in the world. What's your intention? Don't wait for the New Year, start your day tomorrow with an intention. May your intentions create your actions. May your actions be the art, your intentions create!   back to top

SEE YOURSELF
"The sky will bow to your beauty if you do." (Don't know who said it. A student passed it on in class.)   back to top

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE ABOUT YOURSELF?
"We see what we believe, rather than believe what we see." Alan watts. Beliefs dictate our experience. We automatically notice things we're expecting to see, because we're looking for them. In this way, the world largely conforms to our beliefs about it. Though beliefs are supposed to define your world, they can often confine your world. They narrowly shape what and how you experience life, how you experience yourself. http://innerself.com/Creating_Realities/beliefs.htm   back to top

FINDING VALUE IN EVERY MOMENT
To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade. To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby. To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper. To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet. To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who missed the train. To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who just avoided an accident. To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal in the Olympics.    back to top

RECOMMENDED BOOK
YOGA OF HEART by Mark Whitwell. Visit his web site to learn more about his teachings or order his book. www.yogaofheart.com- http://www.yogaofheart.com " 'You are here now' this is a simple argument. It is easier than easy. So simple, we seldom speak of it and do not grasp it. But once seen, it is obvious and we feel the stark reality of our life, unmediated by the mind of doubt. The idea of human perfection that is deeply ingrained in the social mind, in old scientific and religious thinking blinds us from the perfection that is already in us, as us, as Life itself, as Nature "her"self. We are not different, cannot be different from Nature, which sustains us in a vast interdependence with everything. The universe comes perfectly and is awesome in its integration and infinite existence. It is our natural state."

ATTITUDE
"Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, then education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think, say, or do. It is more important than appearances, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company.. A church.. A home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our attitudes". -- by Charles Swindoll

BEAUTY
The world is nothing more than Beauty's chance to show herself.
And what are we?
Nothing more than Beauty's chance to see herself
For if beauty were not seeking herself,
We would not exist. -- Ghalib
