A VALENTINE

As Valentine's Day approaches and the marketing of "love" becomes ever present, take some time to contemplate that Love starts inside. To me, practicing Yoga seems like the perfect Valentine. Yoga has a magical way of increasing our capacity for acceptance, compassion and forgiveness. Naturally, as love for ourselves increases, we grow more deeply connected to others and all of creation. To help get you in the spirit of the coming celebration, this issue offers you heart-opening inspirations as well as some fun-loving events to make the season extra special.

With LOVE,
Jillian

RELAX WITH RESTORATIVE YOGA
Winter is a wonderful time to let go into Restorative Yoga Poses. These simple yet profound poses help relax muscles, calm the mind, and soften the heart. Restoratives are done by laying passively over props such as bolsters and blankets. You stay in the poses for between 5-15 minutes while you relax and focus gently on your breath. They are particularly effective, because when the body is fully supported, and with the help of gravity, you are able to let go more completely, surrendering layers of deeply stored tension. These resources will help you get started on a restorative practice: 1. Video: Yoga Journal’s Yoga Practice for Relaxation. 2. Video: Living Yoga. How to Use Yoga Props - Bolsters, Blankets, Pillows. 3. Book: Relax & Renew - Restful Yoga for Stressful Times by Judith Lasater. 4. Props: http://huggermugger.com. 5. Come join me for a three-hour mini-retreat, which will include lots of restorative yoga - March 16. (Info Below.)    back to top

RELAX MORE
A Valentine's day gift for yourself and your loved ones! When you relax deeply, your mind stops racing. You become more receptive and open so your love, compassion, and intuition flow through you more freely. That's not only good for you, that's good for everyone you come into contact with! A UNIFIED THEORY OF LOVE
I put this in once before, but it's great timing for the Valentine's day month! Love is by its very nature unity, and if you have feelings of self-loathing, they inevitably become part of your relationship with the loved one. http://www.yogajournal.com/meditation/138_1.cfm    back to top

SPIRIT ENHANCING MUSIC
This wonderful CD truly celebrates the spirit. "The dictionary defines 'virtuoso' as 'an experimenter or investigator,' offering as an example, 'a highly skilled performer.' That definition clearly fits Joseph Brenna. - News-Gazette (Lexington Virginia) http://www.josephbrenna.com/cd_listen.html    back to top

CULTIVATE LOVE EVERY DAY
At the End of the Day, Ask Yourself:
"Did my thoughts, actions and deeds contribute to the well being of others?
Did I ask more from others than I needed?
Did resistance to change cause harm to others or myself?
Did my words express the truth from my heart?
Did the choices I made nourish myself?
Did I pause to give thanks for at least one gift in my life?
Did I take time to notice the omnipresence of a power beyond myself?
At the end of the day, am I at peace with myself? "
