| WILLIAM
101 |
|
Williams
first lecture topic: Things are always, by nature, uncertain.
The practice is accepting that we can never know what will happen
next. Believing that you know how it is, or how it should
be blocks your intuition and prevents you from experiencing
how things actually are. Having said that, let me tell you
about the first 9 weeks. My friends predicted my baby would effortlessly
pop out maybe even in downward facing dog! "Your yoga
practice guarantees an easy delivery," they exclaimed. Well,
my yoga was indispensable, but not in the way every one imagined.
Of course I had ideas about how I would like
to bring my baby into the world, however, his birth was harder than
anticipated. I had a long labor which ended in a cesarean and a
lengthy recovery that made my launch into mothering and nursing
super difficult. On top of that, William was in and out of the doctors
his first few weeks with jaundice, and a litany of other ailments
from reflux to a hernia. At week three he entered his Colicky, no-sleep,
nurse around the clock stage and he continues to keep me on 24 hour
duty. Dont get me wrong, even with all the challenges of becoming
a parent every day still brings unmatched bliss, but to be honest,
this was not my idea of welcoming my infant into the world. After
all, "Im a yoga teacher." I was supposed to give
birth to a monk, or at least a relaxed laughing baby. He received
so many blessings and OMs in every class for the past 9 months,
shouldnt he be supremely content? Now, 9 weeks into motherhood,
all my preconceived ideas about how I would birth and raise my baby
have gone out the window! This is actually a good thing. As I let
go of my ideas, everything becomes easier! Ive come to learn
that the answers are not in books or the advice offered by others.
And the answers arent in my head either. Instead,
I must show up in each unfolding moment with new eyes, new energy
and new creative ways to handle the circumstances of the minute.
As I stay flexible and forget what I think I know, I
learn to trust my instincts more, tap my creativity more, and make
better decisions. back

| LET
IT GO |
Let go of the
ways you thought life would unfold; the holding of plans or dreams
or expectations Let it all go. Save your strength to swim with
the tide.
The choice to fight what is here before you now will only result in
a struggle, fear, and desperate attempts to flee from the very energy
you long for.
Let go. Let it all go and flow with the grace that washes through
your days whether you receive it gently or with all your quills raised
to defend against invaders.
Take on faith: the mind may never find the explanations that it seeks,
but you will move forward nonetheless.
Let go and the waves crests will carry you to unknown shores,
beyond your wildest dreams or destinations.
Let it all go and find the place of rest and peace, and certain transformation.

| EYES
OF THE FUTURE |
| "The
eyes of the future are looking back at us and they are praying for
us to see beyond our own time. They are kneeling with hands clasped
that we might act with restraint, that we might leave room for the
life that is destined to come. To protect what is wild is to protect
what is gentle. Perhaps the wilderness we fear is the pause between
our own heartbeats. The silent space that says we only live by grace.
Wilderness lives by the same grace. Wild mercy is in our hands."

| GETTING
REST? |
| Rest
is an essential enzyme of life. Yet in a world where overwork is seen
as a professional virtue, many of us feel we can legitimately be stopped
only by physical illness or collapse. This article offers some interesting
ideas for creating ways to find rest in our busy lives. http://www.innerself.com/Lifestyle_Changes/rest.htm
