SPRING UP
Namaste Yogis and Yoginis,
This morning I walked out my door and was greeted by a patch of little white flowers busting through the hard cold earth. With such delicate blossoms, it’s inspiring to witness their determination to bloom. While I stood adoring them, a cardinal flew by! Immediately, I felt pretty high.
For as long as I can remember, I have loved spring. It is an uplifting season. Nature’s regeneration ignites our faith and happiness; optimism flows more effortlessly. And, with such a long winter and endless grim news reports we can all use this boost of spring’s bright energy. For when we shift our focus to the positive, we actually move through change and challenge more smoothly. To help harness this power, March’s Yogalicious is devoted to refreshing our optimism and preparing the body, mind and spirit to spring up!
With great joy,
Jillian

| WILLIAM 101 - LIFT UP, TO OPEN |
|
“Sometimes our only mode of transportation is a leap of faith.”
Recently, I was on an airplane with William, my five year old. It was a dark and rainy day. William said it felt gloomy. I explained to that no matter what the weather is on the ground, no matter how gloomy things seem, it is always bright blue sky above the clouds. He said “how do you know mommy?” I told him to have faith, and he’ll see for himself after we lift off and rise above the clouds. When we got up he said, “Mommy, your right! There is a beautiful blue sky. And happy mommy. It’s always happy here, no matter what the weather is below!”
William’s wisdom is right on. Yogis teach that this blue sky is like our basic nature; wide and infinite. That the clouds, the weather patterns are the thoughts, emotions, challenges, circumstances, that flow through this blue sky that we are. Like clouds, these darker times are only passing through, they are not permanent. The blue sky, however, is permanent. It is always there within us, always within reach – and each of us has the power to reach in and touch it, any time.

| BRIGHT MIND - BRIGHT LIFE - INTO THE BRIGHT BLUE OF YOU |
While we may find happiness in blooming flowers and longer days of
light, yogis believe that happiness is an "inside job". Yoga
philosophy advocates that energy follows thought and that we choose
our thoughts. Happiness is not a mysterious occurrence. It is a
behavior, a conscious decision. It is a choice we make, each day,
each moment of our day, with each thought we have (or don't have).
To point your mind in this direction, create daily practice of
journaling your gratitude, affirmations, and Mudita (joy
meditation). Pick a journal and label 40 days of pages. Commit to
writing once a day, even for only two minutes. I start with what I
have gratitude for, then I write down a few sentences in the present
tense, constructing an image of myself in a state of well being,
describing the beauty I see in my life – or anything that focuses my
mind in a bright direction. I also jot down any quotes that inspire
me. Don’t worry if you skip a day. Just pick it back up the next
day. The more you write about it, the more you’ll think about it…

| GROUNDED IN RESEARCH |
Want more inspiration to “think positive”. The Mayo Clinic reports
that the health benefits of positive thinking may provide: decreased
stress, greater resistance to catching the common cold, a sense of
well-being and improved health, reduced risk of coronary artery
disease, breathing easier if you have chronic obstructive lung
disease, such as emphysema, living longer, better coping skills, and
reduces the effects of stress on your body over all.

"If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in
